Interview of Dreamsequins: A fashion addict living in New York

new_york_02

On Tuesday 2nd June, we did a live interview with a fashion blogger on Twitter giving her insights into New York. For those of you who missed it, here is the transcript of our discussion. Everyone knows that New York is a city sent to tempt us but even by New York’s standards, Dreamsequins’s fashion & food insights are really rather tempting – so read on at your own peril!

Good Morning @dreamsequins (also known as Deanne), we are very happy to have you here with us today. Just as a reminder, Dreamsequins is an active user of Twitter and also manages a fashion blog which she describes here: “My blog covers emerging fashion designers and independent boutiques. Sometimes I post pictures of my food and interesting landmarks on my travels.”

What subjects would you like to focus on Today?

Hi! I’m very excited about sharing my favorite spots in New York… Considering my expertise: Shopping, emerging designers and food.

Let’s start with shopping then. You have plenty of articles about fashionistas, designers… on your blog ; which ones are a must-see?

Lots of people come to New York and hang around the fancy mid town stores but I’m partial to boutiques down town that focus on independent labels.

Debut Boutique

Debut Boutique

If you like Avant-garde, you should check out Seven in Soho. I also really enjoy EVA on Bowery. Debut focuses on designers new to New York. They will show Parson graduation work in two weeks, which I’m excited about.

As for boys, @velvetescape would like to know where he should go for his next trip to New York.

For boys, definitely check out Odin, a lovely men’s boutique. Apart from this, I think @streetetiquette is the best person to ask about men’s shopping…

Thank you for the @streetetiquette recommendation. @jenlaceda just pointed out that we are speaking about fashion but we do not even know what you are wearing..!

Haha! I’m dressed for comfort today, wearing a blue floral Topshop dress, silver Lanvin flats and an American retro sweater.

Before starting with the food subject, @jenlaceda would like to know what is the trendy item to have this summer

Omelle shoes

Nicholas Kirkwood heels

What is the trendy item to have this summer? Your guess is as good as mine! Probably harem pants or strappy wedges… I have my eyes on some architectural Omelles or a new pair of Nicholas Kirkwoods though!

Time will tell! Moving onto one of my favourite topics – food.  Where are the best places to try in New York if you want to make your taste buds happy?

Bacaro in NYC

Ramen was last year’s hot topic. Momofuku, Ippudo and others in the mix but I am partial to Rai Rai Ken in the East Village.

You can also definitely try the Lobster Rolls at the Oyster Bar (Grand Central), some Italian tapas at Bacaro (Division street)  or the cheese tart at Cafe Select.

Great selection, thanks a lot! My mouth is watering already… Before we end, is there anything else you would like to add?  Any other recommendations for this cosmopolitan city?

Lots of spots in New York are free. You should take the ferry to Red Hook or Governor’s Island and enjoy the summer relaxing!

PS: We have a last minute question from @jenlaceda: If you were to pick one expensive restaurant experience in NYC, where would it be?

Megu dish in NYC

One of my top picks in the city is Megu for their tasting menu. I do not eat beef but my husband swears by their Kobe beef. Megu also has wonderful sushis and other Japanese tapas dishes. I highly recommend it!

Thank you for your time and ideas @dreamsequins!

Thanks Splendia for the interview, it was fun!

And you? Do you know any other hidden gems, emerging fashion designers or favourite places in New York that you would like to share with our Splendia readers?
