It’s that time of year again… Christmas is approaching. So, in true Splendia style, we celebrated another incredible year with the Splendia Christmas Party!
The location was Barcelona’s most famous square, Plaça Reial. Dating from 1848 and known for its tall palm trees, Gaudí lanterns and arcade walkways, it is now home to arty bar and club, Ocaña.
The new favourite place of Barcelona’s glitterati, Ocaña is a tribute to Spain’s flamboyant cross-dressing artist José Pérez Ocaña, who lived next door during the 70s and early 80s. He was a leading figure in Barcelona’s Movida, the hedonistic cultural movement that spread across Spain after Franco died.
Ocaña’s opulent interiors were the perfect setting for a Splendia party to remember. Owner Joaquima Laguna has filled the place with antique pieces salvaged from across Spain, and renovation of the building has revealed original features, such as gilded pillars, parquet floors and 1930s bar panels.
Team Splendia started the night in Ocaña’s Apotheke cocktail bar, a glamorous space lined with ornately carved wood panels (salvaged from an old pharmacy in the Basque Country) reminiscent of Islamic interiors. Cava flowed as hip waiters served Catalan tapas with a twist.
A toast was made to 2013 – Splendia’s 10th anniversary year! The party then continued in
Ocaña’s club, where team Splendia danced the night away to funky house tunes.
Just across the plaça, Splendia recommend stylish new boutique hotel,Hotel DO.
