Ben Hur LIVE will be revived in Rome at the Nuova Fiera di Roma arena this year from 29th September to 29th October. More than 400 people and 100 animals, from horses to birds of prey, will participate in this mesmerising production, which has enthralled over 140,000 spectators worldwide since opening in 2009.
Based on a novel published by Lew Wallace in 1880, it describes the life of Judah Ben Hur, a Jewish prince who lived in the first century AD. Under the direction of Philip Wm. McKinley, the story is brought to life and takes the audience back in time to the birth of Christ.
The audience are treated to an immense chariot race for which over 40 horses were specially trained. With a score composed by Stewart Cope
land, founding member and drummer of The Police, and special effects that use fire, water and wind in the 360 degree arena, expect to feel an exceptional closeness to the event as it captures all the senses. Following its stint in Rome, Ben Hur LIVE will move to Cologne in November for one night only and continue to bring Roman history to life!
Before stepping back to the present day, pay a visit to the Colosseum where the most famous gladiator contests and chariot races took place 1920 years ago. Constructed in 72AD and capable of seating 50,000 spectators, it is considered one of the greatest works of
Roman architecture and engineering. Stay just a stone’s throw from the Colosseum and other famous Roman landmarks at the superbly restored Kolbe Hotel Rome. Perfectly located in the heart of Rome, guests don’t have far to wander back to their elegant and comfortable room after exploring Rome’s magic.
