Lyon Lights Up!

The 8th to 11th December sees the return of the annual Fête des Lumières (Festival of Lights) in Lyon!

The festival dates back to 1852 when a statue of the Virgin Mary was to be erected on Lyon’s Fourvière Hill. Due to bad weather, the event was rescheduled for 8th December, but when a storm struck the city on the morning of the 8th, the master of ceremonies ordered for the festival to be cancelled. The rain stopped that evening and, as the skies miraculously cleared, the local people who had been eagerly awaiting the event lit candles in their windows and came out onto the street to celebrate. They also lit flares to illuminate the new statue of Mary and the Chapel of Notre-Dame-de-Fouvière – and so the Festival of Lights was born!

Exhibition: Jorge Rodríguez-Gerada

Jorge Rodríguez-Gerada‘s solo show at Galería Ignacio de Lassaletta in Barcelona will showcase a new series from the innovative artist. Old materials in various forms have been reused, including parts from 200-year-old abandoned buildings, which have been transferred onto wooden panels. Inspiration for the project comes from the continuing positive message he sends out about the realities of the world and the changes he considers necessary for the future.

A Break in Brussels
