A Break in Brussels

Chocolate, beer and mussels are often the first things that spring to mind when you think of Belgium and its capital, Brussels. However, there is a lot more to the vibrant city, from stunning architecture to a plethora of museums and galleries and innovative modern sculptures.

Founded way back when in around 979, the city has gradually evolved and developed to become a recognised cultural centre of Europe. It is now home to prestigious organisations, becoming the location of the European Community’s headquarters in 1957 and that of NATO in 1967. It is also home to the headquarters of the European Union.
