A craze that has taken the world by storm is the cupcake – and with good reason! Small but perfectly formed, the cupcake was created as an individual serving, designed to bring a little piece of joy to a person’s day. Ideally served with a cup of tea or coffee, or a hot chocolate for those with a real sweet tooth, it’s the ideal treat – morning, noon or night!
They do say, after all, that the best things come in small packages…
Here’s our pick of the best places to enjoy a perfectly-sized piece of deliciousness!
Sprinkles
The self-proclaimed “world’s first cupcake bakery”, Sprinkles opened its first door in Beverly Hills, and now entices cupcake lovers all over the country. You’ll be truly spoilt for choice all year round, tempted to try ever-changing seasonal treats along with regular favourites and the rotating daily menu. Once you’ve decided from the many, many options, choose one of the decorations to go on top, from shoes to teddy bears, flowers to tiaras, or choose your initials and make sure it’s obvious it’s yours and yours alone!
Cup & Cake
A recent addition to the world of cupcakes, Barcelona’s Cup & Cake opened last year and continues to welcome eager cupcake fans through the doors of its two branches on a daily basis. The Oreo and brownie cupcakes content chocolate lovers, whilst classics such as Red Velvet and carrot cupcakes shouldn’t be overlooked! The cups of organic coffee are served with a pretty pattern, and stylishly chic interiors simply command you to sit down and take your time!
Hummingbird Bakery
Londoners have the Hummingbird Bakery to thank for introducing them, not only to the American Red Velvet cupcakes, but also the mouth-watering Whoopie Pies! Now boasting four bakeries across the capital, this is the place to go for freshly baked pieces of paradise – whether it’s a fluffy sponge Chocolate Cupcake, a creative Carrot Cupcake or the innovative Earl Grey Tea Cupcake that tickles your fancy!
Magnolia Bakery
New York is home to Magnolia Bakery, a cute cupcake shop that now has five branches in the Big Apple, ensuring you’re never too far away from a little trove of treasure. Seen in an episode of Sex and the City and mentioned in The Devil Wears Prada, the bakery tempts us with tasty treats, from coconut to lemon to banana to caramel flavoured cupcakes. There’s a plethora of cupcake shops in Manhattan, so on a trip to New York, make sure you also squeeze in a trip to sample all-natural, organic treats at Babycakes and colossal cupcakes at Crumbs.
