Have you always dreamed of getting away from civilisation, and embracing seclusion in an atmosphere of peace and tranquility, whilst being serenaded by the sounds of nature? The Czech Republic has it all: spellbinding vistas, centuries-old history and secretive locations, and… a spectacular hotel that you have probably never heard of.
Tucked away in a small village of the Bohemian-Moravian highland, this impressive chateau lures guests into its fairytale world. Splendia brings you Chateau Herálec – a true hidden gem and our hotel of the month…
Driving through the Vysočina Region, this enchanting chateau can easily be spotted as its historic red turrets appear in the distance. The castle, dating back from the 16th century, used to be t
he seat of the Teutonic Order and belonged to the famous Trčko clan. Following painstaking renovations, this boutique hotel opened its doors for the first time in September 2011. The owners have done an incredible job of preserving the hotel’s old-world charm, whilst including elements of contemporary elegance. Rare paintings from the Vysočina gallery have been uniquely reproduced and now decorate the interiors. Guestrooms marry 21st century style with the castle’s historical beauty, with room names inspired by the paintings that appear in room tapestries.
Lose yourself in the mysterious chateau and its unexpected passages. Climb the wide stone staircase to your spacious room in which you can liv
e like a medieval king. Indulge in a herbal Swedish sauna at the hotel spa or dive into the swimming pool framed by glittering gold mosaics, all whilst a jacuzzi awaits in the castle turret. If your holiday is during the colder months, take advantage of the castle library where you can browse a book by the roaring fire. If you’re looking for active pursuits; fly in a helicopter, ride in a hot-air balloon, try horse riding, hunting or golf, go igloo building or dog sledging…
But what is a real chateau without its gardens? Located behind the chateau gate is an extensive park – a verdant barrier between the castle and the outside world. History is carved in the tree rings of the red oaks in the 18th century park. Lose yourself in the oasis of calm and read a book in the shade of the three-century old trees as you watch squirrels jump around, enjoy a picnic on the lush lawns or simply relax on the deck admiring the panoramic
views.
When it comes to dining, the hotel restaurant is located in the oldest part of the castle. It serves Czech cuisine with a contemporary twist under historical arches and uses only fresh produce from local vendors. It even bakes its own pastry! For a unique dining experience, rent the chateau’s convertible luxury car and take a picnic basket on a drive through the beautiful countryside.
Those who would like to explore the surroundings can drive to the old town of Jihlava, just 15 minutes from the hotel, or to Prague, which is a 50-minute drive away.
Have we convinced you yet? We hope so, because we are anxious to visit this stunning chateau as soon as possible…
