Founded nearly a thousand years ago Marrakesh is Morocco’s secret gem of magical exoticism. Tucked behind rose petalled courtyards and shady orange trees sits the beautiful and charming La Villa des Orangers – Splendia’s Choice of the month.
A long-established riad
built in the 1930s by a Marrakshi judge who lived there until 1998, Pascal and Veronique Beherac discovered the property during a short trip into the city and immediately made it their new project, restoring the house and using local craftsman to respect its heritage. Today, La Villa des Orangers combines Marrakshi tradition and 21st century luxury for the perfect place to take refuge and relax after a busy day haggling in the souks and bartering for treasures.
With views of either the Atlas mountains or the colourful Medina, each of the guest rooms or suites feature gorgeous fabrics, pillowcases and throws with hand-stitched gold thread. Carved wood antique furnishings, su
mptuous leather chairs, warm shades of red and all the latest technology make La Villa des Orangers the perfect stay. Opt for a suite with a private rooftop terrace so you really can be King or Queen of the magical kingdom.
Located just a stone’s throw from the delights of the Medina, it’s worth leaving the charms of the hotel occasionally. Rose-earth coloured buildings and a labyrinth of lanes might leave you bewildered once you step out of the hotel gates, but getting lost is all part of the Marrakesh experience! Jump into any alley around the Jamaa el Fina, and with any luck you’ll emerge back at the hotel some hours later victorious, and with a carpet in tow!
Cool off from the African heat with a plunge into one of the three swimming pools. Head to the rooftop pool for glorious views of the mosque and the desert beyond. Be pampered at the beautiful, mosaic-tiled spa and rejuvenate with a sensational four hands massage, or recline on an elegant sun lounger with a good book and soak up the warm Moroccan sun.
Take the opportunity to dine
in one of the many pretty courtyards, or the private roof terrace where you can experience the spectacular sunset. To ensure the food is always full of flavour the hotel restaurant offers à la carte Mediterranean cusine as well as authentic, seasonal Moroccan food. Expect waiters in long white kaftans, quietly splashing water fountains, rose petals scattered on the tablecloth and delicious, unforgettable food. When night falls, sip mint tea on a chic silver pouf under the glistening Moroccan stars.
